New York, NY, June 9, 2023 – The American Jewish Congress applauds the adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosova. We particularly welcome that the adoption passed with a unanimous vote in the country’s parliament, which underscores a real commitment to combating antisemitism and anti-Jewish bias in all its forms.
The IHRA definition remains the most comprehensive and broadly accepted definition of antisemitism, and a powerful tool in the efforts to counter the rising tide in global antisemitism. The American Jewish Congress thanks the Government and Assembly of the Republic of Kosova, and we reiterate our call for other countries to follow suit. Determination and concrete actions in the fight against antisemitism are needed now, more than ever.
The American Jewish Congress is an independent voice fighting for Jewish rights, interests, and values.
Founded in 1918 by American Jewish leaders like Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, Albert Einstein, Golda Meir, and Justice Louis Brandeis, the American Jewish Congress helps shape the Jewish voice of tomorrow by defending Jewish interests at home and abroad through public policy advocacy, legislation, and the courts.
