The votes are still being counted in several states, but the Republican candidate, Donald Trump has emerged as the clear winner of the 2024 presidential election.
“Many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason and that reason was to save out country and to restore America to greatness and now we are going to fulfill that mission together,” he said in his victory speech in front of enthusiastic supporters in Florida, right after Pennsylvania was called for his ticket.
Trump’s running mate JD Vance described Trump’s win as “the greatest political comeback ever”.
I took until a little after 5:30 AM (New York time), for most of the media to proclaim Trump the winner, after Wisconsin, a key state, was called. That win sent Trump above the 270 electoral college threshold, effectively making him the 47th President of the United States.
He has now won in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia, and is also leading in the rest of the so-called swing states: Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada.
The Republicans are also hoping to control the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives, as they did after the 2016 elections.Leaders around the world rushed to X (formerly known as Twitter) to congratulate Trump on his election victory, including political leaders from Albania and Kosova.
“On behalf of the people of the Republic of Kosovo, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to @realDonaldTrump and @JDVance on their election as President and Vice President of the United States”, wrote Vjosa Osmani, President of Kosova. “The U.S. remains Kosovo’s steadfast partner and indispensable ally. I look forward to working with the new Administration to further deepen our unique bond and strategic alliance.”
“May God Bless America, the leader of the free world!”, she wrote at the end of her message.
“Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump on this remarkable victory”, wrote Edi Rama, Prime Minister of Albania, who was probably the one to include a nod to the outgoing President Biden. “It was a true honor to work alongside the 46th President of the United States to strengthen the bond between our two countries. I look forward to the great privilege of working with the 47th President to further enhance our partnership for peace, prosperity and further progress.”
Albanian former Prime Minister and current main leader of opposition, Sali Berisha, who is in house arrest, wrote: “Donald Trump triumphs. In one of its most historic elections, the great American nation has majestically returned Mr. Donald Trump to the White House as the 47th President of the United States.”
“As a sister party of the Republican Party for three decades, the Democratic Party of Albania eagerly anticipates the future relationship with the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the candidates of this party in leading the U.S. Congress”, Berisha wrote in a thread of several posts.
“Congratulations President @realDonaldTrump on your electoral victory. The US is a key ally, friend and partner to Kosova and we look forward to working together for progress and peace,” wrote Albin Kurti, Prime Minister of Kosova.
