Ilir Ikonomi, a well-known journalist, has retired after three decades of contribution in the Albanian Section in the Voice of America.
I would like to express my gratitude for his tireless work in covering numerous events in our Albanian-American community. We are indebted to him for shedding light on our work for the Albanian cause here in the United States. Throughout his career as a journalist, he has shown exemplary professionalism and dedication.
The Albanian service of the Voice of America has a special importance to all of us. Albanians who lived under the communist oppressive regime listened to its program with undying hope and a yearning desire for freedom.
Beside his work for VOA, Ilir Ikonomi has written books and has explored topics of our national history.
He will be missed in the Voice of America and wish him and his family all the best for the new chapter of his life.
