The Council of Albanian Ambassadors welcomes the decision dated April 24, 2023, of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe – the largest and most important European organization for the protection and promotion of human rights, rule of law and democracy – approving the request for Kosova’s membership and refering it to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
This decision paves the way for full and deserved membership of the Republic of Kosova in the Council of Europe.
The Council of Albanian Ambassadors condemns the malignant efforts of Serbia, which, contrary to the most recent agreement between the two countries, has lobbied against Kosova’s application to the CoE, as well as its interventions and calls for a boycott in the local elections of April 23, 2023, in the north of Kosova, yet in violation of the Ohrid Agreement.
These elections reconfirmed that Kosova, with its consolidated democratic institutions, has become an example of democracy for all other countries in the region.
The Council of Albanian Ambassadors assesses that the recent decisions of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and the European Union on the liberalization of visas for citizens of Kosova, are more than fair, deserved and even delayed decisions.
